Keen to repair, build and maintain structures across our city’s parks and reserves?

We are looking for a practical and experienced person to join our very busy team. This is a hands‑on and physically demanding role.

Structures work is varied and can include: installing signage and bollards, building a large variety of fences, maintaining and refreshing sand ladders/seating/picnic tables, boxing and placing concrete, maintenance of playgrounds, cleaning, maintaining and carrying out minor repairs to water features, installing and undertaking minor maintenance of rubbish bins, removal of graffiti, painting and cushion‑fill renewal among many other tasks.

Often this is a reactive role, so we need someone who can adapt to changing priorities, reprioritise work on the go, and respond effectively as plans change, while understanding the importance of keeping the community (our customers) happy.

What you’ll need to succeed within the City Operations Team
  • Relevant experience and in hard landscaping and carpentry.
  • Relevant qualifications in the above fields, Level 3 or above is preferred.
  • A genuine focus on Health and Safety and willingness to speak up.
  • Physically fit and healthy with the ability to work outdoors on your feet all day.
  • Technology savvy with the ability to use mobile apps and an ipad to track and report on work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A track record of being reliable and a team player but also effective working solo.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to listen and learn.
  • A full clean NZ drivers licence
  • The ability to be a positive ambassador for TCC, interacting with all community members in a respectful and appropriate way.
Applications close: Sunday 20th September

We’re committed to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, including those living with disabilities.

Please Note
  • You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this role, we are unable to provide sponsorship for these roles.
  • As part of Tauranga City Councils commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, the successful candidate will need to pass a pre‑employment medical and drug & alcohol screen.
  • Tauranga City Council does not accept unsolicited contact or applications from recruitment agencies. We will not pay fees or commissions related to unsolicited contact.
