McCain Foods (NZ) Limited in Timaru is seeking a hands-on Operator Packing to ensure efficient operation of our packing lines for locally grown potatoes. You will work in a 24/7 Timaru facility, join a small team, and take ownership of your area with training provided.

The role involves operating packing equipment, maintaining hygiene and food safety, completing documentation, and supporting a safe, productive environment. 12-hour shifts are required, with a 2-day/2-night cycle and four days off.

About The Role.

At McCain, Packing Operators are business-critical team members who ensure the safe and efficient running of our packing lines for locally grown potato products. As part of our 24/7 facility in Timaru, you will join a small, supportive team focused on maintaining product quality and safety standards. Your role is hands-on and fast-paced, involving machine operation and manual handling, with a focus on both teamwork and individual responsibility.

Full training will be provided to ensure you have the knowledge and support needed to succeed in your role. You will take ownership of your area while working within a supportive team environment.

What You’ll Be Doing.

• Operate and troubleshoot packing equipment such as graders, weighers, baggers, case packers, tapers, coders, pallet wrappers, and labellers
• Accurately complete quality and operational documentation
• Maintain exceptional hygiene and food safety practices
• Proactively identify and report workplace hazards
• Uphold the line productivity, safety, and product quality
• Participate in a roster consisting of 12-hour shifts:
• 2 days (7am-7pm), 2 nights (7pm-7am), followed by 4 days off
• Perform manual handling tasks as required
• Identify and respond to operational issues in a timely manner, following established processes and procedures
• Collaborate with teammates, supporting a safe and productive environment

What You’ll Need To Be Successful.

• Comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment, with the ability to stay focused and maintain quality standards across a 12-hour shift
• Strong commitment to health and safety as your top priority
• Previous machine operation experience (advantageous but not essential)
• Previous forklift operation experience (advantageous but not essential)
• Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
• Comfortable using simple touch screen controls as part of daily tasks
• Good computer and data entry skills
• Clear communication and a positive, team-focused attitude
• Willingness to learn, with a reliable and consistent approach to following processes and completing tasks
• Sufficient strength and fitness to manage role’s physical demands
• Legally entitled to work in New Zealand
• Ability to undergo pre-employment medical, drug screening, and reference checks
