Job summary

SPCA Queenstown Op Shop is seeking a dedicated Casual Op Shop Assistant to help on the shop floor, process donations, and assist customers. You’ll join a friendly team, with responsibilities including cash handling, pricing, stocking, and keeping the store presentable.

This long-term casual role suits someone planning to stay in Queenstown and cover shifts as needed. You’ll work with volunteers and may supervise during the manager’s absence, with weekly pay cycle and staff benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year retail experience essential (charity retail a bonus).
• Confident and experienced working sole charge.
• Confident using POS systems, email and basic computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Work sole charge on rostered days, taking full responsibility for daily shop operations.
• Receive, sort, price and merchandise donated goods
• Assist customers and donors with friendly, professional service
• Process sales transactions and complete cash handling duties
• Maintain a clean, safe and well-presented store environment
• Ensure stock is replenished and displayed effectively
• Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
• Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager’s absence.

ABOUT THE ROLE
SPCA is one of New Zealand's most trusted charities, working to improve animal welfare and advocate for animals in need. Every purchase and donation made through our Op Shops helps fund this important work. That's why we are looking for an enthusiastic Casual Op Shop Assistant to join our SPCA Queenstown Op Shop that's known for its friendly volunteer team, quality second-hand finds, and strong support from the local community. Whether you're working the shop floor, processing donations, or chatting with customers, you'll be making a difference every day

Please note: This is a long-term casual opportunity. We are looking for someone who is planning to stay in Queenstown and is looking for ongoing work, rather than short-term or temporary work while travelling.

You're practical, reliable, and enjoy working in a busy retail environment. You take pride in your work, enjoy helping people, and are comfortable taking responsibility when working on your own.

What we're looking for

• Confident and experienced working sole charge
• Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
• Comfortable working in a team, with volunteers and independently.
• Physically fit and able to lift/move stock as required.
• Confident using POS systems, email and basic computer applications
