Job summary

Otago Polytechnic seeks an exceptional nursing academic to join the School of Nursing as a Principal Lecturer, leading across nursing programmes and strengthening learner success, programme excellence and staff capability.

The role offers academic leadership in teaching, curriculum development, assessment and scholarly activity, with opportunities to develop external partnerships and influence nursing education in Aotearoa.

Qualifications

Registration as a Registered Nurse with a current Nursing Council Annual Practising Certificate.
Extensive and current nursing experience with recognised expertise in a specialist area of nursing practice.
A recognised tertiary teaching qualification.
Extensive tertiary teaching experience and a demonstrated record of excellence in facilitating learning.
Evidence of academic leadership, programme development and quality assurance experience.
A demonstrated record of research, scholarly activity, professional leadership and/or consultancy appropriate for a Principal Lecturer appointment.
Strong relationship-building, communication and mentoring skills.
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and advancing equitable outcomes for Māori, Pasifika and disabled learners.
Advanced digital capability and experience using technology-enhanced learning approaches.

Responsibilities

Providing academic leadership across nursing programmes and contributing to programme quality and continuous improvement.
Leading the design, delivery and evaluation of high-quality learning experiences using face-to-face, blended and online delivery approaches.
Leading curriculum development, programme review and the implementation of innovative teaching and assessment methodologies.
Guiding and mentoring academic staff, including teaching observations, professional development and support of scholarly activities.
Providing leadership in assessment design, moderation and academic quality assurance processes.
Supporting learner success through effective supervision, pastoral care and culturally responsive practice.
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with industry, health sector partners, professional organisations and community stakeholders.
Demonstrating leadership in professional practice, consultancy and/or service to the profession and wider community.
