Lead the team responsible for keeping essential water services running. A leadership role combining operational oversight, field coordination & network performance

Not every supervisor role gives you the opportunity to make a direct impact on the services communities rely on every day.

As Network Supervisor, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day operation, maintenance and performance of Southland District Council's 3 Waters assets, including potable water, wastewater and stormwater networks. Leading a team of field staff and contractors, you'll ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard while maintaining reliable services for customers across the region.

Your days will be varied, balancing operational planning, team leadership and field-based oversight. You'll coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, respond to faults and emergencies, monitor network performance and provide technical support to crews working in the field.

You'll work closely with contractors, stakeholders, customers and internal teams to ensure activities are completed in line with contractual, environmental and regulatory requirements. From investigating customer concerns and reviewing network performance to identifying improvement opportunities and future maintenance priorities, you'll play a key role in the ongoing success of the contract.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys leading from the front, building high-performing teams and taking ownership of network operations while contributing to the delivery of essential community services.

You will bring:

  • Strong experience within water, wastewater, stormwater or broader utilities infrastructure environments
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence, with Class 2 and W, T, R endorsements highly regarded
  • Proven leadership experience coordinating field crews and contractors
  • Sound understanding of network maintenance, fault response and operational requirements
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to balance reactive work, customer requests and planned maintenance activities
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence liaising with customers, councils, contractors and stakeholders
  • Experience maintaining operational records, reporting and asset information
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental compliance and continuous improvement
  • Traffic Management, Confined Space and Hazard Awareness training advantageous

You're a practical and proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You enjoy supporting your team, solving problems and delivering outcomes that make a genuine difference to the communities you serve.
