Job description

Chevron Traffic Services is on an aggressive growth trajectory across New Zealand, and we are looking for a dynamic National Commercial Manager to lead, inspire and grow our sales, client and commercial functions nationwide.

About the Role

This is a pivotal senior leadership role within the business, fully accountable for leading, building, and growing our nationwide revenue. You will be responsible for achieving ambitious growth targets, driving client satisfaction, and providing strong strategic leadership and drive to both our client services team (Auckland based); and regional managers for all sales interactions.

We are looking for a passionate, experienced, hands‑on operator with a comprehensive background in b2b client relations, sales, business development, and the broader commercial landscape. The ideal candidate will be client-focused and possess a proven track record in strategic sales leadership, sales hunting, tendering, financial modelling, and team coaching.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Commercial Growth: Develop and execute robust commercial growth and customer retention strategies to consistently drive revenue growth and meet profitability targets.

Client Relationships & Business Development: Drive new business development, pipeline management, customer success strategies, service improvements and the successful execution of tenders to achieve sales targets. Manage key customer relationships with a customer-first approach.

Commercial Excellence: Embed commercial excellence and establish a scalable operating model throughout the client service functions nationwide.

Department Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing commercial team and department. This includes budgeting, reporting, KPI & KRA management, department analysis, project management & continuous improvement delivery.

Team Capability Building: Focus on coaching, building capability, aligning goals/targets, and driving strict accountability.

Business Representation: Act as a true face of the business as our brand ambassador. Build trusted customer relationships. Resolve complex problems and represent the company during high-level contract negotiations, client meetings, business development events, and industry conferences.

Flexibility: Maintain a dynamic work schedule including the ability to travel each month across our operating regions throughout New Zealand, and occasionally weekends work for client hosting events.

Skills and Experience Required

Senior Leadership: A minimum of 7 years of experience in leadership positions (e.g, Sales Manager, Business Development Manager, or Client Leadership roles). Ideally including department management responsibilities; such as reporting, budgeting, strategic planning.

Sales & BD Expertise: Demonstrated experience leading sales teams and executing hands‑on business development tactics. Experience B2B client leader.

Commercial & Financial Acumen: Proven experience winning new business and achieving strict budget targets, particularly in tough market conditions, backed by strong financial modelling skills.

Relationship Management: Exceptional client relationship skills, excellent communication, high emotional intelligence (EQ) and adaptability (AQ), strong interpersonal skills, and advanced negotiation and influence abilities.

People Management: Powerful leadership capabilities with proven success in time planning and influencing large, diverse teams comprised of both direct and indirect report managers.

Proven Track Record essential. Demonstrated success in cold-contacting, market research, winning new business, and consistently hitting budget targets.
