Job summary

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Hutt Valley seeks an experienced Midwife to join the Hutt Hospital Maternity team as a Clinical Coach on a fixed-term basis for up to 12 months. This role focuses on coaching and developing practice in a supportive learning environment.

The successful candidate will have at least five years of midwifery experience, be registered with the Midwifery Council of NZ, and demonstrate strong mentoring and cultural safety under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Qualifications

• Registered Midwife with at least 5 years of practice.
• Experience as a preceptor or mentor.
• Clinical confidence and ability to develop others.
• Ability to demonstrate culturally safe practice under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Responsibilities

• Provide positive, hands-on clinical coaching and role modelling.
• Support new graduate midwives to develop confidence and capability.
• Support orientation and onboarding of new midwives and Maternity Access Holders.
• Provide supervision for return-to-practice or supervised practice requirements.
• Work with midwives to consolidate or refresh clinical skills.
• Encourage reflective practice and professional development.
• Contribute to a safe, culturally responsive learning environment.
• Collaborate with the maternity leadership and education teams.

About the Role

We are inviting expressions of interest from experienced midwives to join our Hutt Hospital Maternity team as a Midwife Clinical Coach, on a fixed-term basis for up to 12 months. This is a fantastic opportunity for a midwife who is passionate about supporting others to grow, develop confidence and thrive in their clinical practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide positive, hands-on clinical coaching and role modelling.
• Support new graduate midwives as they develop confidence and capability.
• Support orientation and on-boarding of new midwives and Maternity Access Holders.
• Provide supervision and support for midwives undertaking return-to-practice or other supervised practice requirements.
• Work alongside midwives to consolidate or refresh clinical skills.
• Encourage reflective practice, critical thinking and professional development.
• Contribute to a safe, culturally responsive and supportive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with the wider maternity leadership and education team.

About you

• is registered with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and holds a current APCh
• has a minimum of five years' midwifery experience
