Job summary

The University of Auckland's UHCS is seeking an experienced Medical Lead to provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for student health services. You will shape primary healthcare delivery for a diverse student population and mentor a team of clinicians to deliver patient-centred care.

Working with the GM and senior leaders, you will contribute to governance, quality improvement, and service planning while fostering a collaborative, high-performing clinical culture in a purpose-driven

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and a current practising certificate.
• Significant experience working in General Practice or primary healthcare.
• Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and the ability to support and mentor clinicians.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety principles.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• A commitment to culturally responsive practice and equitable health outcomes.
• Vocational registration in General Practice
• Experience working with young adults or within tertiary health services
• Experience leading service improvement and healthcare innovation initiatives

Responsibilities

• Providing clinical leadership and support to medical practitioners within UHCS
• Promoting excellence in clinical practice, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives
• Supporting clinical governance activities and ensuring compliance with relevant professional standards and legislation
• Contributing to service planning, operational decision-making, and strategic initiatives
• Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, counsellors, psychologists, and administrative staff
• Supporting workforce development, mentoring, and professional growth within the medical team
• Maintaining a high standard of clinical care through direct patient consultations
• Supporting the development and implementation of evidence-based healthcare practices

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Medical Lead to provide clinical leadership and strategic direction within our University Health and Counselling Service.

This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical excellence with leadership in a purpose-driven environment that places student wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. As Medical Lead, you will play a key role in shaping the delivery of primary healthcare services for a diverse student population while supporting a team of dedicated clinicians to provide outstanding patient-centred care.

Working closely with the General Manager and senior leadership team, you will contribute to service planning, clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and the ongoing development of a positive, collaborative, and high-performing clinical culture.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student health outcomes while helping shape the future of healthcare delivery within one of New Zealand's leading universities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing clinical leadership and support to medical practitioners within UHCS

This role combines clinical leadership with hands-on practice, allowing you to continue delivering care while helping drive service excellence and positive health outcomes for students.

This is a full-time , 37.5 hours per week role on a permanent contract.
