Job summary

Ventia in Wellington is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to support installation, maintenance and repair of high voltage substation equipment. This hands-on role offers variety, safety-focused culture and opportunities to advance your career within the electricity sector.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Fitter trade qualification or equivalent experience.
• Post-apprenticeship mechanical fitting experience is required.
• Strong welding, fabrication and maintenance skills.

Responsibilities

• Installing, assembling and maintaining mechanical plant and equipment.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on substation assets.
• Reading engineering drawings and working to specifications.
• Completing inspections, maintenance and upgrade work.
• Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Participating in project work and occasional standby duties.

About the role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll be responsible for:

• Installing, assembling and maintaining mechanical plant and equipment
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on substation assets
• Reading technical drawings and working to specifications
• Completing inspections, maintenance and upgrade work
• Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
• Participating in project work and occasional standby duties

About you

• Mechanical Fitter trade qualification or equivalent experience
• At least 2 years' post-apprenticeship mechanical fitting experience
• Strong welding, fabrication and maintenance skills
• Ability to read engineering drawings and use precision measuring tools
• A commitment to health, safety and quality outcomes
• A full New Zealand driver's licence
• Physical fitness and a willingness to work at heights when required
