Job description

Mechanical Engineering — AI Trainer

We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to make it happen. Your expertise in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more will directly shape how the next generation of AI reasons through complex engineering problems.

About The Role

This is a rare opportunity to step outside traditional engineering work and influence AI at a foundational level — no prior AI experience required.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
  • Design Challenging Problems — Create advanced mechanical engineering problems spanning FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, material science, and mechatronics to stress-test AI performance at the limits of its reasoning.
  • Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and calibration.
  • Audit AI Reasoning — Review and evaluate AI-generated outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic derivations, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (ASME, ISO, etc.).
  • Sharpen Model Thinking — Identify logical errors such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed material assumptions, and provide structured feedback to improve AI reasoning quality.
Who You Are
  • Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Deep Domain Knowledge — Strong foundational expertise in one or more of: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes.
  • Clear Technical Communicator — Able to translate complex physical phenomena and mathematical reasoning into precise, well-structured written explanations.
  • Precision-Oriented — High attention to detail when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, dimensional analysis, and physical system constraints.
  • No AI experience required — we'll provide everything you need to get started.
Nice to Have
  • Prior experience with data annotation, quality assurance, or evaluation systems
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
  • Experience reviewing or writing technical documentation to engineering standards
Why Join Us
  • Work on some of the most technically demanding AI projects in the world
  • Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, your own terms
  • Freelance autonomy: choose how many hours you take on each week
  • Collaborate with a global network of domain experts and AI researchers
  • Contribute to meaningful work that shapes how AI understands the physical world
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
