Are you passionate about keeping Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana, its waters and islands, their flora, fauna, and natural resources pristine and healthy? If you have an interest in telling people about our marine and terrestrial environment, biosecurity or conservation, then this will be the role for you! We are seeking outgoing, reliable individuals who want to protect this beautiful backyard as Biosecurity Ambassadors. This is the perfect opportunity to take on exciting temporary summer work and kick‑start your new year with a passion.
Serious biosecurity issues, including plant diseases, rodents and marine pests, to name a few, are affecting our Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana and Islands, and we want you to be an ambassador to help prevent further harm.
You will be educating boaties and visitors travelling to Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana and its islands at key waterfront boat and ferry departure points in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland on the importance of preventing the spread of pests and diseases, and how this can occur. You will be working in pairs, rostered around the region, primarily working on Fridays, weekends and public holidays. You will be starting on 3rd of December 2026 and potentially up to 26th April 2027.
All Ambassadors must also be comfortable and confident in approaching and talking to people, working outdoors and in a variety of locations. Reliable transport is a must. Training will be provided.
The assignment runs from 3rd December to 26th April (you can choose to finish around Auckland Anniversary/Waitangi weekend for the university term).
Hours: Part-time, around 18 hours per week (6-hour shifts - Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, as well as Public Holidays) Some mid-week work will be required during the peak holiday season. Shifts are weather dependent.
Locations: Boat ramps and marinas including but not limited to: Bayswater, Browns Bay, Beachlands, Gulf Harbour, Half Moon Bay, Kawakawa Bay, Orakei, Outboard Boating Club, Pine Harbour, Takapuna, West Harbour and Westhaven and possibly others. Ambassadors may also be required to attend relevant public events such as the Auckland Boat Show and other events or festivals as required.
Please note: We will be screening applications as we receive them to move swiftly to interviews. We are aiming to complete all interviews by 13th November, we may take the job advert down earlier.
