Job summary

Oranga Tamariki in Wellington is seeking an experienced Manager to support Te Aorerekura, the national strategy to eliminate family violence and sexual violence. This role leads a large programme, delivering cross‑agency engagements and programme delivery.

You will provide strategic advice to the Leadership Team and build strong internal and external relationships, ensuring priorities align and essential work is completed to a high standard, with travel across New Zealand as required.

Qualifications

  • Senior leadership experience turning strategy into action in a large, complex organisation.
  • Experience supporting governance groups and Executive Leadership.
  • Experience working in Te Ao Māori and partnerships with iwi/Māori organisations.
  • Experience in a project or programme environment with delivery focus.
  • Ability to build strong customer-focused relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Understanding tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples' culture.
  • Knowledge of NZ government legislative and policy processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead work to identify or create communication and implementation plans for the TeAorerekura programme.
  • Ensure alignment of priorities to drive consistency across the programme and Oranga Tamariki responsibilities under the IEB.
  • Build and maintain internal relationships to plan activities and remove obstacles within control.
  • Represent Oranga Tamariki at cross-agency hui and workshops to drive action areas.
  • Provide timely, high-quality strategic advice to the Leadership Team and Ministers.
  • Collaborate with sector partners to achieve good outcomes for tamariki and whānau.
  • Manage workflow with planning and re-prioritisation to complete priority work to a high standard.

The Manager, TeAorerekuraleads alargeprogramme ofworkto implementthenational strategy, with specific accountabilitiesforsupportingcross-agency engagements,programmedeliveryandmanagement.

  • Leadwork toidentifyor createclearcommunication and implementationplans forTeAorerekurawork programme
  • Ensure seamless alignment of prioritiestodrive consistencyacrossthe programmeandtoensure Oranga Tamarikimeetsitsresponsibilities under theIEB.
  • Build andmaintainstronginternalrelationshipsacrossthe businessto plan and schedule activities and remove any obstacles within span of control that could impede success
  • RepresentOranga Tamariki at cross-agency joint venture hui and workshopsto drivetheAction areas and ensure that decisions are communicated back to relevant business groups.
  • Providetimely, high quality and effective strategic advice to the Oranga Tamariki Leadership Team,the Chief Executive, Ministersand other agencies
  • Collaborate with sector partners to support the wider system to achieve good outcomes forchildrenwho come to the attention of the oranga tamariki system
  • Manage workflow, by ensuringappropriate planning, and re-prioritisation of work asrequired, ensuring that priority work is completed toan appropriate standard

You will apply the principles of manatamaiti,whakapapa and whanaungatanga to your practice, to ensure you are responsive to tamariki and whānau Māori. It'smorethan ajob,it'san opportunity to improve the lived experiences of tamariki and their caregiving communities. Key requirements of the role include:

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience, withsignificant experiencein turning strategy into action in a large and complex organisation
  • Proven experience supporting governancegroups, includingthe preparation of advice through to Executive Leadership
  • Comfort, understanding and experience of working inTeAaoMāori and working in partnership with iwi/Māori organisations
  • Experience working in a project environment and ability to develop, manage and deliver projects
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain effective customer focused working relationships, including working with senior stakeholders in the public service and with key sector agencies
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
  • In depth knowledge of New Zealand government legislative and policy processes
Successful applicants will need to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and significant industry experience

A willingness to travel within New Zealand to fulfil the requirements of the role is alsorequired.
