Job summary

MBIE in New Zealand is seeking a Manager Determinations to lead a team that supports the Chief Executive's statutory powers under the Building Act. You will shape the Determinations function, set strategic direction, and ensure high-quality decisions in a complex regulatory environment.

You will lead people leaders and technical specialists, drive continuous improvement, and build strong relationships with MBIE, other agencies and the construction sector.

Qualifications

• Proven senior leadership and operational management experience.
• Experience leading a tribunal, quasi-judicial function, regulatory service, or similarly complex decision-making environment.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and public sector operating environments.
• Strong understanding of the Building Act and Building Code and its application.
• Exceptional judgement, analytical thinking and problem-solving capability.
• Experience leading organisational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
• A track record of developing high-performing teams and future talent.
• Outstanding communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Set the strategic direction and work programme for the Determinations function.
• Lead and develop a team of people leaders and technical specialists.
• Drive continuous improvement in systems, processes and service delivery.
• Provide expert advice on complex, sensitive and high-profile matters.
• Build strong relationships across MBIE, government agencies and the building and construction sector.
• Contribute as a member of the Building System Delivery & Assurance Leadership Team.
