Job summary

Sims Limited in Auckland is seeking a Maintenance Trade Assistant to support maintenance and reliability of plant and equipment on a permanent afternoon shift roster from 2:00pm to 11:30pm. You will help maximise operational efficiency, productivity and safety across the site.

You will assist with preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance or trade support in industrial/manufacturing settings.
• Ability to collaborate with operations teams and adapt to priorities.
• Experience with heavy equipment, hydraulics, welding and conveyors.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Good communication, able to work independently or with a team.

Responsibilities

Join our Auckland Maintenance Team – Afternoon Shift

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Trade Assistant to join our Auckland maintenance team on a permanent afternoon shift roster from 2:00pm to 11:30pm. In this role, you will support the maintenance and reliability of plant and equipment, helping to maximise operational efficiency, productivity, and safety across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for plant and equipment.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing equipment performance and reliability.
• Follow routine maintenance schedules and accurately complete maintenance records and documentation.
• Assist production team members with operational and general support duties as required.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and urgent maintenance requirements to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with site safety, environmental, and quality standards.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience in a maintenance or trade support role within an industrial, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with operations teams and adapt to changing maintenance priorities.
• Experience working with heavy equipment, including exposure to hydraulics, welding, and conveyor systems.
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Excellent attention to detail and a focus on delivering quality workmanship.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Desirable Skills and Experience

The following will be highly regarded:

• Knowledge and understanding of engineering and maintenance processes.
• Experience working in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
