Lecturer (Teaching & Administration) in Software Engineering
  • Full-time 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) / Continuing (permanent) position

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering invites applications for a continuing (permanent) Lecturer position focused on teaching and academic administration. The appointee will play an important role in the development and delivery of our new Master of Software Engineering programme.

The successful candidate will contribute across the Master of Software Engineering and, according to programme needs, to other undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We are particularly interested in applicants able to teach across advanced software engineering topics such as software dependability, verification and validation, software quality and testing, secure software engineering, and software architecture and design.

As a member of our Department, you will:

  • Teach and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with a particular contribution to the Master of Software Engineering programme.
  • Develop inclusive, engaging, and practice-informed learning experiences that connect sound engineering principles with contemporary tools and real-world software systems.
  • Contribute to programme administration, course coordination, assessment moderation, curriculum planning, quality assurance, student advising, and service within the Department, Faculty, and University.

Special role requirements This position includes teaching responsibilities offshore contributing to the joint education programme between University of Canterbury and Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT), Shannxi Province, China.

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field (applicants who have submitted their PhD for examination or are near completion may be considered).
  • The technical confidence to teach both conceptual and practical material using contemporary software engineering methods and tools, including relevant analysis, testing, security, or verification tools.
  • The flexibility and willingness to teach a substantial portfolio across software engineering and related computing subjects, rather than only within a narrow specialisation.
  • A demonstrated ability to teach effectively using inclusive, innovative pedagogies.
  • Evidence of collegiality, communication, and leadership skills, and a commitment to supporting an inclusive academic environment.
  • A willingness to engage with industry and community partners to enhance impact and visibility.

This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies: Lecturer (Teaching and Administration) Salary Scale - $70,258 (1.01) - $123,687 (4.04).
