Tikipunga High School is seeking an inspiring and forward-thinking leader of learning of science to guide our growing department and strengthen science pathways for our ākonga. With increasing numbers of senior students engaging in science and pursuing science-based careers, this is an exciting leadership opportunity in a well-resourced, supportive kura. Commencing term 1, 2026 (or by negotiation).

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced practitioner who demonstrates:

  • Strong curriculum and pedagogical expertise across junior science and NCEA programmes.
  • A proven commitment to raising Māori achievement, embedding Mana Ōrite and culturally responsive, relational practice.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused leadership style that builds professional trust, team cohesion and high expectations.
  • A passion for innovation in science, with the ability to inspire curiosity, critical thinking and engagement in a rapidly evolving learning area.
  • Restorative and relational approaches to working with students, whānau and colleagues.
  • A positive attitude and sense of humour, and a genuine enjoyment of working with rangatahi.

The applicant may also be eligible for the new government Teacher Bonding Scheme (TBS).

The successful applicant will lead a small, committed team dedicated to high-quality teaching, equitable outcomes, and supporting students into successful futures.
