Job summary

University of Waikato in Hamilton is seeking an Induction and Professional Development Lead to design a pathway that builds teaching capability from first day to leadership. This full-time role supports academic staff across Hamilton, Tauranga, and international settings, with a salary starting at $115,904 pro-rata per year.

You will lead the Teaching Design and Innovation Studio, develop induction and career-stage professional learning, and foster scalable resources and peer-review engagement

Qualifications

• Master's degree in education, adult learning or a related field, or equivalent; a doctorate or tertiary teaching qualification would be a plus.
• At least five years in higher education teaching and professional development with programme design experience.
• Knowledge of teaching quality frameworks, peer review processes, HEA Fellowship pathways and promotion criteria.
• Ability to apply pedagogical research to programme design.
• Skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis and communicating findings.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and mātauranga Māori and applying it in work.
• Experience coordinating large-scale induction or professional development programmes in higher education.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver induction and career-stage professional learning pathways.
• Lead institution-wide engagement in peer review of teaching.
• Build scalable professional learning resources to reduce one-to-one support.
• Establish teaching-focused communities of practice.
• Support academics pursuing HEA Fellowships and related recognition.
