Job summary

Icehouseventures is seeking a Lead Hardware Engineer to own the hardware development lifecycle for innovative camera systems. This role requires strong embedded systems expertise and significant autonomy while working on product development from concept to production.

Responsibilities include managing external partnerships, creating comprehensive design documentation, and refining existing products. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of experience in hardware development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical field.
• Experience bringing a product from concept all the way to market.
• Proven experience in managing electrical & firmware design, coordinating mechanical designers, manufacturers, and post-release lifecycle support.
• Demonstrated experience (ideally 5+ years) in embedded hardware development, including schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, testing, and debugging complex systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Yocto embedded Linux development, including kernel configuration, device trees, and root filesystem customization.
• Solid understanding across various hardware domains: digital/analog circuits, power management, communication interfaces, and system integration.
• Experience designing secure IoT systems and best practices.
• Ability to own projects end-to-end, manage competing priorities, and work effectively with significant autonomy.
• Proven understanding of DFM/DFT principles and direct experience working with contract manufacturers and external design partners.
• Knowledge and experience taking products through certification processes (e.g., CE, FCC, RCM, UL).
• Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills with a curious, growth-oriented mindset in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to clearly articulate technical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full product development lifecycle from concept to production, including electronics, firmware/software, and enclosure design.
• Design new products to expand Timescapes’ hardware catalog.
• Create and maintain software across high-level software applications, embedded Linux systems, and low-level microcontroller firmware.
• Refine and improve existing established Timescapes products.
• Manage and coordinate with external industrial design and contract manufacturing partners.
• Collaborate with manufacturing houses to oversee prototype builds, testing procedures, and production transition.
• Establish relationships with suppliers locally and overseas for core components.
• Work with supply chain and logistics teams to support production, component sourcing, and distribution.
• Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, build instructions, test plans, and manufacturing guides.
