Job summary

ALS Testing Services NZ Limited in Wellington, New Zealand, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform analytical testing of oil, fuel, and coolant samples used for condition monitoring of heavy mining equipment. You will work in a fast-paced laboratory, ensuring accuracy, safety, and timely turnaround; comprehensive training is provided on instrumentation and procedures.

Ideal candidates will have 1–2 years in a production environment, with tertiary qualifications or accredited laboratory

Qualifications

  • Experience with analytical testing of liquids (oil, fuel, coolant) preferred.
  • Ability to record data accurately in LIMS and QA/QC procedures.
  • Sound computer literacy; training provided for internal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical and physical testing of oil, fuel, and coolant samples.
  • Apply a range of analytical tests using specialised laboratory instruments.
  • Accurately record sample and testing data into the LIMS system.
  • Ensure all work aligns with ALS Quality Work Instructions and QA/QC requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of laboratory safety policies.
  • Support the team to deliver quality results on time.

Laboratory Technician – Wellington, New Zealand

About the Role

Working within the Oil & Lubricants laboratory, you will be responsible for the analytical testing of oil, fuel, and coolant samples used in the condition monitoring of heavy mining equipment and machinery. You will play a key role in ensuring testing is completed accurately, safely, and within agreed turnaround times. Comprehensive training will be provided on all relevant instrumentation, systems, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform chemical and physical testing of oil, fuel, and coolant samples
  • Apply a range of analytical tests using specialised laboratory instruments
  • Accurately record sample and testing data into the LIMS system
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with ALS Quality Work Instructions and QA/QC requirements
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with laboratory safety policies
  • Support the team to deliver quality results on time

To be successful you will receive full training, but be advantaged with: 1–2 years’ experience in a production-based industry Tertiary qualifications or accredited laboratory training (completed or currently studying).
