Job summary

Job Description

The Key Account Development Manager plays a critical role in strengthening Whakarongorau presence, relationships and growth opportunities across priority customer organisations. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role works closely with Executive leaders, operational teams, and subject matter experts to identify, shape and progress opportunities that contribute to commercial growth and improved customer outcomes.

You’ll develop deep understanding of customer priorities, commissioning intentions, stakeholder networks, and emerging sector opportunities. Through structured account planning, stakeholder engagement, opportunity development, and procurement activity, you’ll help position Whakarongorau as a trusted partner within the health and social sector (including Health NZ/Te Whatu Ora, ACC and Ministry of Social Development).

This role will be focused on expanding our engagement footprint, building strategic relationships, and supporting the successful progression of growth opportunities. You will act as a connector across customers and internal teams, ensuring valuable insights, opportunities, and market intelligence are translated into future services, partnerships, and sustainable organisational growth,

  • Develop and maintain account plans that support growth across priority customer organisations.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders anddecision makers.
  • Identify, assess, and progress opportunities for service expansion, new offerings, and strategic partnerships.
  • Lead and coordinate procurement activity, including proposals, tenders, and funding opportunities.
  • Maintain a pipeline of opportunities and support their progression from concept through to implementation.
  • Gather and share customer, market, and sector intelligence to inform commercial planning and decision-making.
  • Coordinate engagement and opportunity development activities across commercial, operational, clinical, and digital teams.
  • Support the successful positioning of Whakarongorau as a trusted and valued partner within the health and social sectors.

Qualifications

You’re a relationship-driven commercial professional who thrives on identifying opportunities, building meaningful connections, and turning ideas into action. You enjoy working across complex stakeholder environments and have a natural ability to understand customer priorities, uncover future opportunities, and bring people together to achieve shared outcomes.

You bring experience in account development, business development, partnership management, or commercial roles where you’ve successfully built stakeholder relationships and contributed to organisational growth. You’re comfortable working through ambiguity, navigating competing priorities, and influencing outcomes without direct authority.

You’ll be a strong communicator who can gather and interpret insights, develop opportunities, and coordinate input from a wide range of stakeholders. Most importantly, you’ll be motivated by the opportunity to help shape innovative health and social services that make a meaningful difference for communities across Aotearoa.
