Job summary

Te Roopu Taurima seeks a Kaiāwhina to support tāngata across a range of needs in our whare environments, with dignity, independence, and respect guided by tikanga Māori. You will work with the Kaitaataki and team to deliver personalised, hands-on support that fosters choice and community participation.

The role involves personal care, meals, medication support (training provided), and building independent living skills while upholding culturally safe practices in a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Experience in disability support, mental health, or life skills support with a calm, caring and respectful approach.
• Willingness to learn kaupapa Māori values and practices.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Flexible and reliable; able to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Full NZ driver’s license and reliable transport.
• NZQA qualification may be supported.

Responsibilities

• Uphold tikanga Māori values in all whare life.
• Support tāngata with personal cares, meals, hygiene, routines and medication (with training).
• Help tāngata build independence, confidence and life skills; connect with whānau and community.
• Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming whare environment.
• Collaborate with Kaitaataki and team; participate in handovers and training.
