Maketu School in New Zealand seeks a Certificated teacher to join our small dual-medium kura. You will teach in the English-medium pathway and collaborate with the tumuaki and kaiako to strengthen structured literacy as part of our holistic learning approach.
You will engage with tamariki, whānau and kōeke, incorporating local stories and knowledge to enrich the curriculum while using play-based exploration and explicit instruction to support diverse learners.
We’re upgrading the Education Gazette website on Monday morning. It will be unavailable for up to 3 hours from 9am.
Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kura o Maketu. We’re a small, dual-medium coastal kura with English-medium classrooms and Tūterangiharuru, our Level 1 Māori-medium rumaki pathway. Both pathways are part of one kura, guided by our vision, Kia tū rangatira ai, and the values of manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga and tū rangatiratanga.
When we asked our tamariki what makes Maketu special, they talked about their teachers, their friends, working together and caring for the whenua. Our coast, estuary and Te Arawa pūrākau give us rich opportunities to learn close to home, alongside whānau and kōeke.
You’ll teach in our English-medium pathway and work alongside our tumuaki and kaiako to strengthen structured literacy. The permanent unit recognises your responsibility for helping colleagues share effective practice, moderate learner work and use assessment to identify who needs additional support, what to teach next and whether that teaching is accelerating progress.
You’ll also help make Maketu part of everyday learning. We’re keen to hear how you would draw on local stories, places and knowledge, and use intentional play and hands-on exploration alongside explicit teaching.
We’d love to hear from a kaiako who:
