Job summary

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is seeking a dedicated educator to support the delivery of Alternative Education, helping tauira gain literacy, numeracy and life skills to re-engage with secondary school, further study, or employment.

The role involves planning lessons, promoting a tauira-centric environment, and collaborating with schools and support agencies to ensure successful learning pathways.

Qualifications

• Diploma/certificate requirements for teaching and youth work are essential.
• Adult literacy and numeracy qualifications required or pursued.
• Experience with education acts and school referrals is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan lessons and manage day-to-day delivery of the Alternative Education programme.
• Promote a tauira-centric, collaborative and supportive learning environment.
• Deliver curriculum using engaging content, methods, tools and resources to tauira.
• Work with schools to accept referrals and coordinate support.
• Facilitate collaborative action plans with tauira, whānau, schools and support agencies.
• Provide professional support to tauira for learning, attendance, engagement and career guidance.
• Foster cultural awareness and build relationships with schools and iwi/hapu.
• Support transport of rangatahi to and from courses.

Education

Diploma Level 5 related to Education, SocialWork, Youth Work or related field

Certificate in Adult & Tertiary Teaching Level 5

Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 5

Unit Standards 4098, 11281, 18203

2+ years experience teaching youth (12-17)

Experience with Education Act, Policies and Procedures

Full New Zealand Driver's License

The role aims to support the delivery of Alternative Education to help tauira gain appropriate literacy, numeracy and life skills to enable them to pathway back into secondary school, further education, or employment. In this role, you will:

• Plan lessons and manage day-to-day delivery ofthe Alternative Education programme.
• Promote a tauira-centric, collaborative andsupportive learning environment
• Enhance all tauira learning experiences bydelivering curriculum using engaging content, methods, tools, and resources
• Work together with schools to accept referrals
• Facilitate Collaborative Action Plans withtauira, whānau, schools, and relevant support agencies
• Provide professional support to tauira to enableaccess to: Learning and skills acquisition, attendance and engagement, careerguidance, disability health or social services support
• Foster, maintain and display appropriatecultural awareness and connections
• Establish and maintain strong and meaningfulprofessional relationships with schools, education providers, employers, iwiand hapu
• Support the transportation of rangatahi to andfrom their course
  

We are looking for someone who has the following:

• Diploma Level 5 related to Education, SocialWork, Youth Work or related field, or equivalent experience
• Certificate in Adult & Tertiary TeachingLevel 5 (or be willing to work towards gaining this certificate with our support)
• Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 5, orequivalent experience
• Unit Standards 4098, 11281, 18203, or in theprocess of working towards them
• 2 years + experience teaching youth (12-17-year-olds)or working in Alternative Education, Social Work or related role
• Experience working with Education Act, Policiesand Procedures
• Full New Zealand Driver's License
