Job description

Join a respected planning consultancy with a strong pipeline of local authority work.

Our client is one of New Zealand's leading planning consultancies, recognised for delivering high-quality advice across both public and private sector projects.

With continued demand across Canterbury and the wider South Island, they are looking to appoint an Intermediate or Senior Planner to join their Christchurch team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a capable planner who enjoys resource consent work, values being part of a collaborative team, and wants to continue developing within a well-supported consultancy environment.

The Opportunity

This role will primarily focus on resource consent work, including the preparation, processing and management of consent applications.

You will support an established Christchurch team with a strong pipeline of work across local authority and consultancy projects. While the immediate demand is weighted toward consent processing and related planning support, there will also be opportunities to gain exposure to broader planning work as projects and team requirements evolve.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing, processing and managing resource consent applications.

  • Supporting local authority planning work across Canterbury and surrounding regions.

  • Providing practical planning advice to clients and project stakeholders.

  • Reviewing planning documentation and preparing clear written reports.

  • Working closely with councils, developers, consultants and internal project teams.

  • Supporting District Plan, policy or strategic planning work where required.

  • Managing competing priorities while delivering accurate, timely work.

For Senior Planners, there may also be opportunities to support more complex work, assist less experienced planners, and contribute to client relationships.

About You

We are keen to hear from planners who bring:

  • Approximately 5+ years' New Zealand planning experience at Intermediate level, or 7+ years' experience at Senior level.

  • Consultancy and/or local government planning experience.

  • Strong knowledge of the Resource Management Act and New Zealand planning legislation.

  • Experience preparing and/or processing resource consent applications.

  • Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.

  • The ability to manage workload, deadlines and competing priorities.

Just as importantly, you will be reliable, proactive and self-sufficient. You will take ownership of your work, ask good questions, use initiative, and contribute positively to a busy team environment.

A collaborative attitude, commercial awareness, and the ability to work with a range of clients, councils and consultants will be highly regarded.

What's on Offer?

  • Join one of New Zealand's leading planning consultancies.

  • Work within an experienced and supportive Christchurch planning team.

  • Strong pipeline of resource consent and local authority work.

  • Opportunity to develop your technical planning capability.

  • Exposure to broader planning projects as the role evolves.

  • Flexible working arrangements and a positive team culture.

  • Competitive remuneration aligned with experience.
