Job summary

PwC New Zealand is seeking a Manager/Senior Manager for our Indirect Tax team. You will lead GST advisory engagements, apply tax legislation to complex GST issues, oversee GST compliance, and manage client relationships across multiple engagements.

The role involves mentoring juniors and collaborating with PwC specialists to deliver integrated client solutions. You will contribute to business development, market engagement, and growth initiatives while leveraging NZ and international Indirect

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in indirect tax, including GST/VAT advisory work, gained in NZ or internationally.
  • Experience in a Big Four, professional services, advisory, legal, or corporate tax environment.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and deliver high-quality outcomes across multiple engagements.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
  • Experience leading projects, managing stakeholders, and mentoring junior team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GST advisory engagements and provide practical, commercially focused advice.
  • Research and apply tax legislation to complex GST issues and prepare high-quality written/verbal advice.
  • Manage GST compliance and review assignments, including GST return oversight.
  • Identify, assess and manage indirect tax risks through reviews, controls and data analytics.
  • Build strong client relationships and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Mentor junior team members and support their development.
  • Collaborate with PwC specialists across Tax, Deals, Assurance and Consulting for integrated solutions.
  • Contribute to business development, thought leadership and market engagement.
  • Support and participate in PwC NZ growth initiatives and client service delivery.

Our Indirect Tax team is passionate about helping clients navigate complex GST and Customs issues while unlocking value through practical, commercial solutions. We work across a broad range of industries, supporting clients with cross-border transactions, property acquisitions and developments, financial transactions, business sales and restructures, GST compliance, risk management, and tax governance. As a Manager or Senior Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality GST advisory and compliance services, leading client engagements, and developing trusted relationships with clients and colleagues. You’ll work alongside experienced indirect tax specialists locally and across the PwC global network, helping clients solve complex challenges while building your own technical and leadership capabilities.
