Job summary

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa seeks a kaiako to deliver te reo Māori programmes in a fully immersive context, aimed at adult learners. You will plan lessons, develop resources and tailor delivery to diverse tauira needs while upholding tikanga and whanaungatanga.

The role emphasizes assessment, progress monitoring and ensuring academic quality in line with NZQA standards. A Level 5 qualification in te reo Māori with teaching credentials is preferred, along with a driver licence and willingness to engage

Qualifications

• A Level 5 qualification (or higher) in te reo Māori, with adult tertiary teaching and assessment credentials (or ability to attain them within 12 months).
• Proven experience teaching te reo Māori in full immersion, ideally with adult learners.
• Strong planning, communication and reflective practice skills, with a genuine commitment to tauira success and professional growth.
• A full NZ Driver Licence and the flexibility to support learning activities such as noho, wānanga and field trips.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality te reo Māori programmes (Levels 3 & 4) using full immersion teaching practices grounded in tikanga Māori, whanaungatanga and ako.
• Create engaging learning experiences by planning lessons, developing resources and adapting delivery to meet diverse tauira learning needs and goals.
• Support tauira success end-to-end, including induction, assessment, progress monitoring, retention strategies and achievement of educational outcomes.
• Maintain academic quality and compliance, including assessment, moderation and administration aligned with NZQA and organisational requirements.
