We have a strong focus on getting the right fit within our team, as our people are the most important part of our business. This is generally a Monday-Friday role, although some flexibility around working hours may occasionally be required to support our teams and operations.

About the Role:

Reporting to the HSEQ/HR Manager, you will work closely with project managers, supervisors, HR, leaders across the business and site teams to promote a proactive HSEQ culture and ensure our systems are effectively implemented across the business.

This is a field and office, people-focused role that will involve regular engagement with operational teams and site-based support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide practical HSEQ advice and support to project and site teams.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, audits and workplace observations.
  • Conduct incident, near-miss and hazard investigations.
  • Support the development and review of risk assessments, safe work method statements and project HSEQ documentation.
  • Monitor corrective actions and follow up to ensure timely close-out.
  • Support environmental management activities and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining HSEQ records, registers, reports and information.
  • Coordinate training, competency and authorisation requirements, maintain records, identify gaps and verify training effectiveness.
  • Promote continuous improvement and share good practice across the business.
  • Help ensure legislative, client and company requirements are understood and followed.
  • Build positive working relationships with employees, subcontractors, clients and other stakeholders.

About You:

You will be a confident communicator who can build rapport with people at all levels and provide practical advice in a busy civil construction environment.

Ideally, you will have:
  • Previous experience in an HSEQ, health and safety, environmental or quality advisory role (minimum 3 years).
  • Experience working in civil construction, infrastructure or a related industry.
  • A relevant qualification or experience in health and safety, environmental management, quality or related discipline.
  • Good knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and industry practice.
  • Strong investigation, reporting and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Confidence engaging with site-based teams and operational staff.
  • A current full New Zealand driver licence.

At PCL Contracting, we believe HSEQ is a shared responsibility. You will join a supportive team where your advice, initiative and contribution will make a genuine difference to the way we work.

We offer the opportunity to:
  • Be part of a collaborative team that values its people, supports professional growth and takes pride in delivering quality work.
  • Work across a diverse range of civil construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Make a meaningful contribution to our safety, quality and environmental performance.
  • Develop your skills and progress your career.
  • Access medical insurance, an employee assistance programme, profit share, and wellbeing services and events.

If you are ready to make a positive contribution to a growing civil construction business, we would like to hear from you.
