Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Lakes seeks a Service Manager for Emergency and Medical Management based in Rotorua and Taupo. The role leads operational and financial performance, delivering high‑quality care while ensuring service sustainability and medico‑legal compliance.

You will oversee the Emergency Department across two hospitals, MMU, IOC, nursing agency, duty managers and related functions, working with clinicians and community partners to meet patient needs.

Qualifications

• Operational management experience (ideally in a health environment)
• Strong financial, budgetary and performance management skills
• Proven leadership skills in a relevant setting
• Resilience and ability to manage competing priorities
• Commitment to customer service, quality improvement, risk management and equity of outcomes

Responsibilities

• Oversee operational and financial performance of a group of hospital services
• Manage Emergency Department operations across Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals
• Lead the Medical Management Unit (MMU), Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), nursing agency, duty managers and related functions
• Partner with Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Lakes and community stakeholders to ensure delivery of high‑quality emergency services
