Job summary

JobSpace in New Zealand is seeking candidates for a pasture-based dairy farm role. On-site accommodation is available, and candidates should be physically fit with a valid driver licence and right to work in NZ.

The position involves feed production management, effluent system operation, herd health, and farm business support. Ideal applicants have tertiary education or two years of pasture-based dairy farming experience, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance on a busy dairy

Qualifications

  • Must have right to work in NZ/be NZ citizen/resident.
  • Must have a driver licence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Farm Manager to organize and control feed planning and management.
  • Oversee weeds and pests management to maintain pasture and crops.
  • Ensure fertilizer application and irrigation requirements are met by staff.
  • Ensure staff carry out the milking process effectively, including plant hygiene and somatic cell count to maintain grade-free standards.
  • Operate and maintain the farm effluent system in line with regional council requirements and company standards.
  • Implement animal health program and coordinate calving and calf rearing to ensure healthy herds and high-quality replacements.
  • Manage stock purchases and sales to meet stock targets and maintain records.
  • Collaborate with Farm Manager to contribute to the Farm Business Plan and oversee repairs and maintenance of farm infrastructure.
  • Comply with health and safety requirements and wear PPE; report hazards and accidents; support environmental guidelines.

  • Employee housing is available on-site.Accommodation may be shared orprivate, depending on availability at the time of successful placement. No pets allowed.
  • Drive-in applicants must be able to demonstrate they can reliably meet the requirements of the roster; candidates residing outside a reasonable commuting distance who are unwilling to relocate may be considered unsuitable for these operational reasons.
Applicants must have:
  • Tertiary education;and/or
  • 2 years of pasture based dairy farming experience

Feed Production Management
  • Assist Farm manager to organize and control with any feed planning or the management of as appropriate
  • Oversee the management weeds & pests implementation to maintain pasture & crops
  • Ensure fertilizer implementation and irrigation requirements are maintained by staff
  • Ensure that all staff carries out the effective operation of all aspects of the milking process, including plant hygiene & somatic cell count, to maintain grade free standards
Effluent
  • Operate & maintain the effluent system on farm to all regional council compliance requirements & the employer’s standards
Animals
  • Implement animal health program to maintain good health
  • Organize and control animal calving and, calf rearing program to achieve minimal lose & ensure high quality replacements are available for herd
  • Organize sale purchase of stock to achieve stock targets
  • Ensure all herd records are maintained & transferred to the appropriate place
  • Train and supervise staff
Business
  • Work with the Farm Manager to contribute to Farm Business Plan
  • Assist to manage repairs & maintenance schedule for all plant, machinery, infrastructure
  • Ensure relevant company policies are understood & adhered to
Health & Safety
  • Comply with health & safety requirements, adhere to policies & procedures
  • Meet the above requirement by wearing all personal protective equipment
  • Notify Farm Manager of new hazards identified and of any accident or near miss accident & complete Accident Report
  • Assist to work within best practice environmental guidelines
  • Help with major projects as required by the Farm Manager
