Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Health Care Assistant for the General Surgery ward in Dunedin. The role requires supportive work with nurses and the health care team, patient supervision, and general ward maintenance.

Shifts are rostered and rotating; the successful candidate will be reliable, caring, and able to work with initiative in a busy clinical environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in health care environments is preferred.
• Demonstrated initiative and proactive teamwork.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Support nurses and health care team on ward.
• Supervise and assist patient movement.
• Provide patient care as required.
• Maintain ward cleanliness and order.
• Monitor patients and provide one-on-one watch as needed.

Salary Band – $60,100 - $70,358 p.a pro rata + Kiwisaver

0.6 FTE / 48 hours per fortnight

About the role

This role will see you primarily focusing your attention to the overall needs of the service. This is a varied role within a clinical environment, and you will need to be able to take instruction and direction from the nurses on the ward, whilst having a helpful and team focused approach to making a difference to the environment, and care provided to the patients under our care.

There may be opportunity to work across multiple areas but will be primarily based in the General Surgery ward.

As a Health Care Assistant, you will be involved in:

• Supporting our nurses and other members of the health care team
• Patient supervision and/or movement
• Patient cares, as required
• Ward maintenance
• Patient watch, with one on one care as required
• Shifts are rostered and rotating

Salary Range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the expired NZNO CEA and the salary will be in accordance with the HCA Pay Scale, between $60,100 and $70,358 p.a pro rata dependant on relevant experience.
