With state-of-the‑art equipment, Awanui Labs Northland (previously known as Northland Pathology Limited) provides high‑quality diagnostic pathology services to the Te Tai Tokerau / Northland community.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Lead the Corelab, working with the section leaders of Biochemistry and Haematology and dedicated team, ensuring high‑quality services and an open, collaborative, and supportive work environment.

  • Coach and mentor team members to grow and develop by providing technical advice, training, and education in haematology, biochemistry and Immunoassay.
  • Organise and prioritise workflow efficiently to meet the company's and client's requirements effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 15189:2022
  • Full‑time permanent role, 80 hours minimum fortnightly based in our Whangarei laboratory.
About you | He kōrero mōu

To be successful in this role you need to have:

  • Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand with a specialisation in biochemistry or haematology, and experience in both.
  • 5 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in New Zealand or overseas equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent, accepted by the Medical Sciences Council NZ for registration.
  • 2 years’ experience in a team leadership role
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Technical expertise and a thorough understanding of laboratory protocols and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration and rapport with team members and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of ISO15189
  • Flexibility to work Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm, with potential after‑hour support as required.
