Job summary

Surbana Jurong is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering graduate for a two-year Graduate Development Program in Auckland, New Zealand. You will work on real infrastructure projects from day one, gaining design, analysis, and documentation experience while being mentored by senior engineers.

The program combines hands-on project work with structured learning, workshops, and a focus on developing consulting skills, communication and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Exposure to electrical design tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to electrical design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
  • Assist with electrical calculations and analysis across transport systems, power distribution, lighting and renewables.
  • Participate in site visits, testing and commissioning to understand how designs are implemented on live projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate electrical inputs and support project milestones.
  • Learn and apply industry standards and best practices through structured development and on-the-job experience.

Graduate Engineer- Electrical Engineering (Feb 2027 Program)
The Role

As a Graduate at SMEC, you'll be part of a high-impact talent group, contributing to the delivery of major infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists.

Our two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) is designed to accelerate your growth - combining hands-on project experience with structured learning, mentoring, and exposure across teams and disciplines.

Once completed, successful Graduates move along our Career Pathways, transitioning to their Professional title (either 'Graduate' or 'Scientist' depending on the technical discipline) and then onwards. Growth is a balanced blend of experience, tenure, development, goals and desired trajectory.

Key responsibilities:

You'll support the delivery of real infrastructure projects from day one - contributing to electrical design, analysis and documentation across transport, energy and renewable projects while learning from experienced engineers and gaining exposure to site and project delivery.

  • Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting electrical design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation
  • Assist with electrical engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as transport systems, power distribution, lighting and renewable energy under guidance from senior engineers
  • Participate in site visits, testing and commissioning to develop an understanding of how electrical designs are implemented on live projects
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate electrical inputs and support project delivery milestones across transport and energy infrastructure
  • Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on-the-job experience
About You

You're a motivated Electrical Engineering graduate who enjoys problem-solving, working in teams, and contributing to real-world infrastructure and energy projects.

You will bring:
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Exposure to design and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP or PowerFactory (or similar advantageous)
