Overview

We are looking to employ a General Physician to join our Department of Medicine, currently providing General Internal Medicine inpatient and outpatient services, plus a range of sub-specialty services to a population of approximately 260,000.

This position is based at Whakatane Hospital, a 60+ bed Level 2 hospital. This is predominantly an inpatient role but will include some elective work.

Whakatane Hospital runs an Acute General Medical inpatient service with district wide support from sub-specialists in Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Geriatrics, Oncology, Haematology, Palliative care, Neurology and Renal services. General Physicians are well supported to provide comprehensive care.

The successful candidate will join a department of six other physicians who share General Medical responsibilities across team. They will lead an inpatient team that includes RMO support. The role includes participation in acute medical assessment, admissions, and an on-call roster. The department has a strong desire to keep improving our service for both our patients and colleagues. There are teaching opportunities across undergraduate (years 4-6) and postgraduate (basic and advanced trainees) medicine.

About You
  • Hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council.
  • Be aligned with the values of the department and be able to work in a professional capacity with their colleagues and wider health care providers.
  • Have competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a have a commitment to further their journey by taking taking ownership of their cultural learning and growth.
