Job summary

Green by Nature in Queenstown is seeking an experienced gardener/ horticulturalist to maintain parks, playgrounds and public spaces across the region. You will perform planting, weeding, pruning and general garden care while prioritising safety and high standards.

Candidates should have hands-on gardening experience, a horticulture qualification, a full manual driver’s licence, and a practical, positive attitude. The role offers guaranteed hours and a wellness benefit.

Qualifications

• Hands-on gardening experience at a commercial level with a horticulture qualification.
• Current full driver's license with manual transmission ability.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices relevant to outdoor work.
• Positive, hands-on attitude and strong work ethic.
• Good communication skills for public engagement.

Responsibilities

• Planting, weeding, pruning and vegetation control across multiple Queenstown sites.
• Maintain bedding displays, hanging baskets, roses, borders and shrubbery.
• Ensure safety for the public and team while delivering high standards.
• Work as part of a team and follow the Site Manager’s guidance.
• Comply with Green by Nature policies and drug/alcohol policy.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Manager and working closely with other team members, you will be responsible for general garden maintenance across multiple sites in the Queenstown district such as Whakatipu and Arrowtown. Your duties will include planting, weeding, pruning, and vegetation control, as well as maintaining bedding displays, hanging baskets, roses, borders, and shrubbery. You'll ensure all tasks are completed to the highest standards while prioritising safety for the public, your team, and yourself.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced gardener/ horticulturalist; someone with outdoors maintenance experience and who simply loves working outdoors. We work in some challenging climate conditions at times, so you'll need to be fit and strong.

What we are looking for:

• Hands-on gardening experience at a commercial level and/or a relevant qualification in horticulture (either National Level 3 or 4 in Horticulture and/or GrowSafe Certification)
• A current, full driver’s licence with the ability to drive a manual (a must!)
• An awesome work ethic and positive, hands‑on attitude
• Knowledge of health and safety practices relevant to the role
• Great communication skills as you may engage with the public from time to time
• Physical fitness to handle the demands of the role
