Job summary

The Civil Aviation Authority is hiring Aviation Security Officers for Queenstown Airport. Permanent full-time roles with a starting salary of NZD 72,187 per year, commencing training early 2027.

You will screen passengers and baggage, conduct mobile and static patrols, monitor access, identify security breaches, and support safe airport operations. Comprehensive paid training leads to a NZQA Level 4 qualification, with final weeks in Christchurch.

Qualifications

• Must be a New Zealand citizen, Australian citizen, or New Zealand resident.
• Medically fit and willing to undertake a medical assessment.
• Successfully complete background checks, including reference and police vetting.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, noisy environment requiring sustained concentration.
• Flexible and adaptable to shift changes.
• Available to work a rostered pattern of 6 days on, 3 days off, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Available to attend an in-person assessment centre and interview on 21 or 22 October 2026.

Responsibilities

• Screen passengers and baggage using security equipment.
• Conduct mobile, foot, and static patrols around the airport.
• Monitor access to secure areas and verify IDs.
• Identify, prevent and respond to potential security breaches.
• Support safe airport operations through observation, communication and rapid response.
• Collaborate with colleagues and airport stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain security.
