Job summary

ALS in Hamilton, NZ, is seeking a hands-on Team Leader to guide our Food Microbiology testing team. You will play a key role in quality results, efficient workflows and client service, while developing staff and driving continuous improvement.

This permanent role runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with a focus on safety and collaboration. You will report to the Microbiology Operations Manager and lead by example to build a high-performing, compliant laboratory culture that delivers excellent

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years' laboratory experience with leadership experience.
• Proven experience in a commercial food microbiology lab.
• Tertiary qualification in science.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of laboratory staff, fostering a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture.
• Provide hands-on technical and operational leadership, supporting laboratory testing activities and leading by example.
• Coordinate and prioritize daily laboratory workflows to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality delivery of client results.
• Monitor team performance, productivity and accountability, ensuring objectives and client expectations are met.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency, quality and service delivery.
• Ensure team competency through training, mentoring, and development planning.
• Maintain compliance with quality systems and accreditation requirements.
• Promote a strong Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability (HSES) culture.
• Build cooperative relationships with internal stakeholders to deliver client outcomes.
• Adhere to Code of Conduct and company policies.
