Job summary

Halter is seeking a Fleet Specialist in New Zealand, based in Oamaru with regular NZ travel, to maintain and improve Halter’s on-farm hardware infrastructure. You’ll diagnose hardware issues, deploy new equipment, and work with product and customer success teams to keep farms running smoothly.

This hands-on role requires practical electrical, networking, and field operations skills, plus a proactive approach and ability to travel across the South Island.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of Halter’s on-farm hardware infrastructure.
  • Diagnose hardware issues and feed back to relevant teams.
  • Deploy new equipment on farms and assist with installations.
  • Provide on-site deployment support and troubleshooting during farm deployments.
  • Be part of the on-call roster to support tower-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with hardware, product and customer success teams to ensure customer outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze data from hardware to improve processes and inform decisions.
  • Travel within the South Island and across NZ as required.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and high-performing Fleet Specialist to join our team in New Zealand, supporting the maintenance and performance of Halter’s on-farm hardware infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our systems are operating efficiently, resolving technical issues quickly, and helping to refine and improve the reliability of our hardware across our customer network. Note this role is Oamaru based with regular NZ travel. This is a hands-on position that requires strong technical ability, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to field operations. You may find yourself maintaining and upgrading infrastructure one day and deploying new equipment on-farm the next. You’ll be the go-to person for ensuring everything runs smoothly, delivering exceptional service and support to our customers. As a Fleet Specialist, you’ll work closely with our hardware, product, and customer success teams, ensuring effective collaboration and a strong feedback loop between the field and our Auckland HQ. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact in transforming New Zealand’s dairy and livestock industry through world-class agri-tech innovation.


What your day could look like


  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep and repair of Halter’s infrastructure to ensure seamless operations.


  • Hardware Diagnosis: Diagnose any issues with our hardware and feed this information back to the relevant team.


  • Versatility: Ability to transition smoothly between tasks, from repairing and upgrading infrastructure to delivering towers and collars as needed.


  • Deployment Support: Provide critical on-site support during farm deployments if needed, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring successful installations.


  • On-call: Be part of the global on-call roster to support tower-related incidents and proactively find solutions in a timely manner.


  • Collaboration: Work closely across all of the Halter teams to ensure alignment and successful customer outcomes.


  • Problem-Solving: Address and resolve technical challenges promptly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to farm operations.


  • Adaptability: Be prepared to manage a variety of tasks, often simultaneously, to meet the dynamic needs of the role.


  • Data Analysis: Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze data from our hardware, optimize processes, and inform decision-making. You'll ensure that actionable insights are extracted to improve operational efficiency and resolve issues proactively. Development and management of a maintenance system for our NZ market.


  • Travel: travel within the South Island region + some NZ wide travel will be required.

  • Willingness to travel: Spontaneous & planned travel will be included in this role. You might be 3 or 4 days on the road per week. You may also be 3 nights away from home per week.



Bonus Qualifications (These are not mandatory for you to apply)


  • Agriculture Experience (Preferred): While not mandatory, experience in the agriculture sector would be highly beneficial.
