Hamilton City Council is seeking a Financial Insights Analyst to join the Finance and Enabling Services group. You will support the delivery of clear, accurate financial and performance reporting, and help prepare reports, dashboards and analysis that explain performance and drive decisions.

Working with Power BI and Excel, you will translate complex data into practical insights, identify trends, and support automation and continuous improvement of reporting processes across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, data analytics or equivalent.
• CA registration or progress toward CA qualification or equivalent.
• Experience in financial analysis, performance reporting and decision support within a large or complex organisation.
• Experience developing reports, dashboards and insights using Power BI and Excel.
• Ability to analyse financial and non-financial information to identify key drivers.
• Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
• Positive and proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop analytical and reporting capability.
• Experience in capital-intensive, infrastructure, local government or similarly complex environment would be advantageous.

About the opportunity:

We are looking for a Financial Insights Analyst to join our Finance and Enabling Services group.

In this role, you will support the delivery of clear, accurate and timely financial and performance reporting. You will help prepare reports, dashboards and analysis that explain organisational performance, identify key trends and drivers, and support informed decision‑making across Council.

Working alongside the Senior Financial Insights Analyst, Financial Reporting and Insights Manager and the wider Finance team, you will contribute to a more consistent and integrated view of financial and non‑financial performance.

• A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, data analytics or an equivalent discipline.
• Chartered Accountant registration, progress towards a CA qualification, or an internationally recognised equivalent qualification.
• Experience in financial analysis, performance reporting, decision support, business case development or a related discipline within a large or complex organisation.
• Experience developing reports, dashboards and insights using tools such as Power BI and Excel.
• The ability to analyse financial and non‑financial information and identify the information that matters most.
• Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
• A positive and proactive approach, with a willingness to learn and continue developing your analytical and reporting capability.
• A high level of integrity, professionalism and commitment to accuracy.
• Experience in a capital‑intensive, infrastructure, local government or similarly complex environment would be an advantage.

Circa $116,000 dependent on skills and experience.
