Job description

My client is a leading, privately owned agribusiness with a rich legacy and strong strategic vision. Operating across 30 farms, covering dairy, crops, and lamb sectors in the South Island, they are committed to operational excellence, financial sustainability, and environmentally responsible farming. This position is Timaru based.

We are seeking a talented and driven Financial Analyst to join the finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll be a key contributor to their financial reporting, budgeting, and ERP transformation initiatives, helping ensure accuracy, insight, and continuous improvement across the group's financial operations. We're looking for someone with a hands-on mindset who isn't afraid to get close to the numbers, understand the mechanics/'why' behind them, and help the team navigate through operational bottlenecks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in producing accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including feed and livestock, inventory.
  • Process intercompany transactions and support livestock/feed cost accounting.
  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed assets register, including depreciation and valuations.
  • Contribute to monthly cash flow forecasting and financial modelling.
  • Prepare monthly journals, accruals, prepayments, and interest calculations.
  • Support annual statutory reporting and external audit requirements.
  • Assist in forecasting and budgeting for capex, depreciation, feed, livestock, and interest.
  • Perform financial analysis and benchmarking to support farm performance insights.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in financial systems and reporting.
  • Play an active role in the implementation of a new ERP system. You'll be our SME (Subject Matter Expert)
  • Use Excel and large datasets to manage multi-entity reporting efficiently.

  • Experience in a similar position
  • Advanced Excel level, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
  • Experience with financial systems and strong attention to detail.
  • A proactive mindset, focused on root-cause analysis and long-term solutions.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and using technology as a financial enabler.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders across the business.
