Job summary

The Department of Conservation in Wellington is seeking a Financial Accountant to support robust financial accounting across assets, taxation, and reporting, contributing to sound governance and stewardship of DOC's assets.

You will lead month-end and year-end reporting, collaborate with auditors, and provide specialist accounting advice while driving improvements in processes and controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards and legislative requirements.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting.
• Experience in financial accounting, financial reporting, asset accounting, taxation and reconciliations.
• Auditing experience with Crown assets is desirable.
• Experience using large financial systems (ideally SAP) and strong Excel skills.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Deliver financial accounting services across fixed assets, Crown land, taxation, banking, and other operational accounting areas.
• Lead and support month-end and year-end financial reporting, reconciliations, asset revaluations, financial statements, and audits.
• Provide technical accounting advice on financial reporting, asset capitalisation, taxation, and Crown land transactions.
• Drive system and process improvements to strengthen compliance and efficiency.
• Contribute to financial accounting projects and business improvement initiatives.
