Job description

Be a catalyst for transformation. Shape the future at PwC New Zealand.

At PwC, our purpose is clear: to build trust in society and solve important problems.

This is a place to keep growing. You’ll learn from the best, take on meaningful challenges, and make a lasting impact for our clients, our communities, and Aotearoa.

Join our Finance, Economics and Analytics team within Consulting, where we use data, analysis and commercial insight to help clients understand complex problems and make better decisions.

Our work helps clients solve complex challenges as a team. This can include analysing organisational and service performance, identifying the drivers of financial and operational outcomes, developing financial models and business cases, assessing strategic options, undertaking economic and commercial analysis, and translating complex information into practical recommendations.

Based in Pōneke / Wellington, you’ll be an integral part of our Consulting line of service, working with clients to turn data and evidence into clear insights and actions.

Your day-to-day could include:

  • Delivering analytical and consulting projects across different industries, combining quantitative analysis, research, operational insights and commercial thinking to solve complex client problems.
  • Working with large or complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, variation and performance drivers, and developing hypotheses to explain what is happening and why.
  • Bringing together financial, operational and other data to build a richer understanding of organisational, service or portfolio performance.
  • Undertaking financial modelling, forecasting, cost-benefit analysis, performance analysis, economic analysis and other quantitative assessments to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Synthesising data, research and stakeholder perspectives into clear insights, identifying potential levers for improvement and translating analysis into practical recommendations.
  • Developing clear and compelling analysis, visualisations and presentations that make complex findings accessible to senior decision-makers.
  • Coaching, developing and supervising junior team members, supporting a culture of learning and growth.
  • Building trusted relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in the corporate, government, regulated or consulting sectors, with a experience using quantitative analysis and evidence to solve complex business or organisational problems.
  • Strong analytical capability, including the ability to structure ambiguous problems, interrogate data, identify patterns and drivers, test hypotheses and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Experience working on complex analytical, performance, strategy, financial, economic or commercial projects.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with complex datasets. Experience with data visualisation or analytical tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python or similar would be advantageous.
  • A degree in a quantitative or analytical discipline such as economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, engineering or another relevant field is preferred; postgraduate qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a strong instinct for asking the questions behind the numbers - not just what is happening, but why it is happening and what can be done about it.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, with well-developed business acumen and strategic insight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas clearly.

If you don’t meet every requirement, we still want to hear from you - your skills and potential may be a great fit.

  • Rewards - Discretionary bonus opportunities; generous referral bonuses; retail discounts & deals
  • Growth - Global network; leadership development; A.I. tools and training; formal learning pathways
  • Wellbeing - $250 annual wellbeing allowance; Life & income protection; Sonder/EAP/Headspace; 15 days’ paid sick leave; group-rate health insurance (eligibility applies)
  • Reputation - PwC is known for shaping tomorrow. Join us and you’ll accelerate your career while helping clients and communities solve their most important problems.
  • Flexibility - Flexible working; supportive coaching culture
  • Time off - Two paid recognition days off provided each year during our annual summer shutdown period; purchase up to two extra weeks’ annual leave
  • Whānau & community - Paid parental leave for all parents with flexible options and financial planning support; inclusive networks; paid volunteering leave
