Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking a Finance Assistant to provide essential financial administration support across the Group Performance & Planning Unit. You will report to the Accountant and collaborate with teams responsible for Hamilton Gardens, H3 venues, Te Taonga Waikato Museum, and more to ensure timely and accurate financial information.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in transactional finance or customer-focused roles, solid accounting knowledge, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
  • NCEA Level 2 English and Maths to merit level, or equivalent
  • Strong computing skills, particularly in accounting systems, MS Word, and Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work cross-functionally and build internal relationships

About the Role

As part of the Group Performance & Planning Unit, you'll provide essential financial administration support, ensuring core finance transactions and processes are executed effectively. Reporting to the Accountant, you'll collaborate across various finance areas to support the operational delivery of financial information for Hamilton Gardens, H3, Te Kaaroro Nature Precinct, Te Whare o Taonga Waikato Museum and Gallery, and other group activities.

Key Responsibilities:

You will bring the following:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a transactional finance and/or customer-focused role
