Job summary

Department of Conservation in Rotorua seeks a Ranger Biodiversity to protect and restore Aotearoa’s biodiversity through hands-on fieldwork, monitoring, pest management and habitat enhancement. You’ll work across ecosystems, liaising with iwi, landowners and partners while delivering conservation outcomes.

The role combines independent field tasks with team-based projects, requiring practical problem-solving, safety focus and strong collaboration to support threatened species and habitat

Qualifications

• Experience delivering biodiversity, environmental, or resource management work programmes.
• Experience delivering predator or pest control programmes.
• Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver projects and field‑based activities.
• Knowledge of biodiversity management, ecosystem restoration, species protection and threat management.
• Experience leading complex projects or coordinating programmes of work across multiple stakeholders.
• Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, operational procedures and permitting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Deliver biodiversity monitoring programmes and collect data.
• Support threatened species recovery and restoration projects.
• Conduct pest and predator control activities.
• Maintain conservation infrastructure, equipment, and monitoring sites.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of field activities.
• Build relationships with iwi, communities, neighbours and partners.
• Promote safe work practices and contribute to a positive team culture.
