Job summary

New Zealand Health Group (NZHG) is seeking an Equity and Inclusion Advisor to drive inclusive practices across the organisation. You will work with senior leaders and People & Culture teams to advance Te Tiriti o Waitangi and health equity, shaping strategies and supporting meaningful organisational change.

You will help implement inclusion plans, engage with diverse communities, and build capability through workshops, data insights and resources.

Qualifications

  • Experience developing or supporting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
  • The ability to apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles within an organisational environment.
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori and Pacific frameworks.
  • Knowledge of tikanga Māori, Te Reo Māori and Māori knowledge systems would be an advantage.
  • The ability to build culturally affirming relationships with diverse communities, including Māori, Pacific and Rainbow communities.
  • Knowledge of Māori and Pacific health and engagement approaches and how these can be applied in practice.
  • Experience facilitating conversations, workshops and group engagement activities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • The ability to influence and partner effectively with senior leaders.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to develop reports, presentations and recommendations.
  • A balanced, practical and solutions‑focused approach.
  • A genuine passion for helping create inclusive workplaces where people feel valued and supported.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and delivery of NZHG's Equity and Inclusion work programme.
  • Partnering with senior leaders to identify and address barriers to workforce participation and inclusion.
  • Supporting the development of recruitment, retention and engagement practices that enable people to bring their authentic selves to work.
  • Co-leading the development and implementation of Māori, Pacific and other inclusion action plans.
  • Facilitating workshops, discussions and learning opportunities that build organisational capability in diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Working alongside employee-led groups including Ngā Waka Houra and the Rainbow Leadership Group.
  • Providing data, insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
  • Building strong internal and external relationships to share best practice and strengthen NZHG's inclusion journey.
  • developing resources and tools that support our people to build knowledge and capability in equity and inclusion.
  • Collaborating across People & Culture, Quality and Organisational Development teams to embed inclusive practices throughout the employee experience.

We have an opportunity for a passionate and purpose-driven Equity and Inclusion Advisor to join our Organisational Development, Engagement and MySkill team.

This role is all about helping NZHG become an outstanding place to work by driving equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives across the organisation. Working closely with senior leaders, People & Culture teams and employee networks, you will help create an environment where all our people feel valued, supported and able to thrive.
