Job summary

Xero is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Machine Learning & AI team, guiding ML and platform engineers from research to production-scale infrastructure. You will champion robust MLOps, observability, and AI-native workflows across the software lifecycle.

You will work with senior ICs to shape architecture, while growing the team and delivery discipline, ensuring scalable AI systems for Xero’s global platform.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of leading engineers and building team capability over time.
• Strong technical judgement across architecture and system design.
• Able to translate business goals into executable engineering plans and roadmaps.
• Experience delivering roadmaps predictably in fast-paced environments.
• Hands-on when needed to unblock the team or support incidents.

Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing, inclusive ML and platform engineering team.
• Oversee production ML infrastructure and MLOps maturity.
• Collaborate with Applied Science, Data Engineering and Product to move ideas to production.
• Balance delivery with system health and observability.
