Job summary

Downer in New Zealand seeks a capable Electrical Supervisor to lead dynamic electrical teams across commercial and industrial projects. The role blends supervision with hands-on work, ensuring quality and timely delivery at busy sites.

You will oversee installation, maintenance, and fault-finding while guiding subcontractors and coordinating with project managers. A strong safety mindset and NZ licensing are essential.

Qualifications

• Current NZ EWRB Practising Licence - Electrician (E) or Electrical Engineer (EE).
• Experience leading electrical teams on industrial or commercial projects.
• Strong knowledge of PLC and BMS systems wiring is preferred.
• Demonstrated health and safety leadership on site.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise electrical teams, ensuring workmanship and productivity.
• Oversee daily site activities and subcontractor performance.
• Drive installation, maintenance, and repair across industrial and commercial systems.
• Support fault-finding and troubleshooting on complex equipment.
• Assist project managers with documentation including contracts and insurance.
• Prepare and manage monthly progress claims.
• Build strong client relationships and resolve issues proactively.
• Plan resources to meet project timelines and delivery targets.
• Mentor and develop team members, fostering a safe, collaborative culture.
• Uphold Zero Harm safety, quality, and NZ compliance standards.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise electrical teams, ensuring high standards of workmanship and productivity

Ngā Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

• Current EWRB Practising Licence - Electrician (E) or Electrical Engineer (EE)
• Experience in a supervisory or leading hand role (or ready to step up)
• Strong background in industrial, mechanical, or commercial electrical work ( Experience with PLC and BMS systems wiring highly desirable )
• Proven leadership ability to direct, monitor, and develop teams
• Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
• Health & Safety knowledge, including working at heights (advantageous)
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage workloads effectively
• Current NZ Driver's Licence
• Willingness for occasional travel
• Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Confidence using computer systems for reporting and job tracking
