Job summary

The University of Waikato invites applications for the role of Director Research and Enterprise to lead the delivery of our new research strategy and support across the research lifecycle. You will shape opportunities, proposals, funding, delivery and impact, working with senior leaders and external partners.

We seek a strategic, data-informed leader with postgraduate qualifications, advanced governance skills and a proven track record in research funding and transformation.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification (Master's degree or equivalent experience).
• Senior leadership experience in research, research management or institutional strategy.
• Proven success in research funding, proposal development or research strategy.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Excellent analytical, governance and decision-making capability.
• Experience leading organisational change and transformation.
• Financial and resource management expertise.
• Ability to build strong relationships across academic, government, industry and international sectors.
• Collaborative, proactive and resilient leadership style.
• Doctoral qualification and RFNZ experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across the full research lifecycle.
• Lead five integrated research support functions.
• Transition from operational service to strategic, data-informed partner.
• Position the university for success in RFNZ funding environment.
• Grow external research income and engage international collaborators.
