Job summary

Statistics New Zealand is seeking Data Analysts to join the Measuring a Modern Economy (MME) programme and the Macroeconomic Statistical Delivery Branch. The roles are fixed-term and based in Wellington or Christchurch, with a focus on modernising economic statistics and improving integration across systems.

You will help shape data structure and interpretation, contribute to statistical products, and support decision-making for government and business.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualifications or experience in economics, finance, national accounts, accounting, statistics, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and data skills with confidence interpreting data.
• Ability to work across multiple datasets, systems, or environments.
• Understanding of economics, corporate finance, and statistical production, with practical application.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the production and evolution of high-quality statistical products.
• Analyse data across core releases and datasets to identify trends and drivers.
• Ensure outputs are accurate and robust and embed quality into processes.
• Work across data sources, systems, and datasets to design sustainable, efficient workflows.
• Develop and apply forward-looking methods, tools, and standards for data production and stewardship.
• Identify opportunities to streamline and automate processes, including AI-based approaches.
