Responsibilities

  • Assist the dentist during general, restorative, orthodontic, implant and other dental procedures as required.
  • Prepare dental surgeries, instruments, materials and equipment before and after appointments.
  • Assist with four-handed dentistry and maintain efficient workflow during procedures.
  • Take and process dental radiographs where appropriately trained and authorized.
  • Provide post-operative instructions and support to patients as directed by the dentist.
  • Follow infection prevention and control requirements and practice protocols.
  • Clean, disinfect and prepare treatment rooms between patients.
  • Clean, package and sterilize instruments correctly.
  • Maintain sterilisation records and report concerns immediately.
  • Ensure clinical areas are clean, organised and appropriately stocked.
  • Welcome patients in a friendly, professional and reassuring manner.

The Dental Assistant provides high-quality clinical and patient supports to dentists and the wider dental team. The role involves assisting during dental procedures, preparing and maintaining clinical areas, ensuring effective infection prevention and control, and providing welcoming and professional experience for patients. This is a full-time dental assistant role; the hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:30am to 5:30pm, and Saturdays 8am to 2pm.

Key responsibilities
Clinical Assistance

Assist the dentist during general, restorative, orthodontic, implant and other dental procedures as required.

Prepare dental surgeries, instruments, materials and equipment before and after appointments.

Assist with four-handed dentistry and maintain efficient workflow during procedures.

Take and process dental radiographs where appropriately trained and authorized.

Provide appropriate post-operative instructions and support to patients as directed by the dentist.

Follow New Zealand infection prevention and control requirements and practice protocols.

Clean, disinfect and prepare treatment rooms between patients.

Clean, package and sterilize instruments correctly.

Maintain sterilisation records and report any concerns immediately.

Ensure clinical areas are clean, organised and appropriately stocked.

Welcome patients in a friendly, professional and reassuring manner.

Assists patients before, during and after treatment.

Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, dentists and other team members.

Practice Support

Maintain adequate stocks of dental materials, instruments and PPE.

Monitor clinical supplies and inform the Clinical Manager when stock needs to be ordered.

Maintain dental equipment and report faults or maintenance requirements.

Assist with maintaining accurate clinical records as required.

Support the reception when necessary.

Participate in team meetings, training and continuing professional development.

About you

Reports to Clinical Manager and Principal Dentist and must be able to work the advertised hours.

Previous dental assisting experience is preferred.
