Contact Energy is seeking a data engineer to sit near both business and technology teams, shaping how data is used to solve problems and enable future innovation. In a small team, you will influence decisions, build strong stakeholder relationships and see direct value from your work.
You’ll translate business needs into scalable data solutions, design pipelines, and evolve reporting capabilities to support business outcomes across the energy platform.
At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. That belief shapes everything we do, from leading the energy transition to how we power Aotearoa and care for our people and communities.
We’re a power, broadband, and mobile company, but we’re also investing boldly in renewable energy and smarter, more connected ways of working mahi. Our ambition is simple: to leave Aotearoa better than we found it.
Guided by our tikanga, we’re a team who care deeply about the work we do, how we support one another, and the impact we have. Simply put, we touch lives to make life better.
At Contact, good energy starts with great people. We’re on a mission to help build a better Aotearoa by accelerating the transition to a low‑carbon future. Through Simply Energy, we work alongside some of New Zealand’s largest commercial and industrial energy users, helping them make smarter decisions about how they use and manage energy leading the way to a low‑carbon future. Data plays a critical role in the Energy Transition journey.
This is more than a traditional data engineering role.
You’ll sit close to both the business and technology teams, helping shape how data is used to solve problems, improve outcomes, and support future innovation. In a small team environment you’ll have the opportunity to influence decisions, build strong stakeholder relationships, and see a direct connection between your work and the value it creates.
You’ll join a collaborative team, where curiosity, initiative, collaboration and ownership are highly valued.
You’ll be someone who enjoys connecting technology to real‑world outcomes.
You’re naturally curious, enjoy understanding how things work, and aren’t afraid to ask questions or challenge assumptions. You like working directly with stakeholders, can confidently navigate ambiguity, and are motivated by solving meaningful problems.
We support flexible working where it works for the individual, the team and the business. Our main hubs are in Wellington and Auckland, and this role is best suited to someone who can work flexibly from one of these locations.
This ad will close on Tuesday 4th of August but we’re considering applications as they come in, so hop to it if you’re keen!
